David Montgomery to Miss 4-5 Weeks; Help Coming?

The Bears will lose RB David Montgomery for a while, but the depth at the position should sustain them for the short-term.

The Chicago Bears will be without their star running back for a while. On Tuesday morning, reports surfaced that David Montgomery is dealing with a knee sprain, which will knock him out four-to-five weeks.

Although the news isn’t great, it’s still better than losing Montgomery to an ACL or MCL injury. It is the encouraging news that was reported late on Sunday and confirmed again on Monday.

As a result, Damien Williams and Khalil Herbert will move up the depth chart to RB1 and RB2, respectively. Meanwhile, the team is bringing in reinforcements. Per Brad Biggs, the Bears are signing Artavis Pierce.

Pierce was cut during the roster trim down during the preseason. Additionally, Ryan Nall is already on the practice squad and either him or Pierce will be active on Sunday to assume the RB3 role.

Furthermore, to help with the promotion of Herbert to RB2, the Bears made a trade for Jakeem Grant. Grant will assume the returning duties, which was Herbert’s role prior to the injury.
