Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan revealed that Derrick Jones Jr. and Marko Simonovic fully participated in practice on Thursday. Center Tony Bradley is still out nursing a back injury.
The Bulls are coming off an impressive preseason debut, which saw them take down the Cleveland Cavaliers 131-95. Though the Bulls were missing key rotational players, end-of-the-bench players stepped up. Derrick Jones Jr. was most likely in line for the start against Cleveland, but an ankle injury kept him out. In his absence, Javonte Green received the start and made the most out of his opportunity. The four spot will go to Patrick Williams once he’s fully healthy after sustaining an ankle sprain.
Tony Bradley also missed the game against the Cavaliers. Marko Simonovic was likely to receive backup center minutes, but a thumb-jam in shootaround kept him out of the game. The 2020 second-round draft pick elected to come over to the Bulls after spending the last two years playing professionally in Europe.
It’s encouraging to see the Bulls creeping back toward full strength. The team seems to be optimistic that Patrick Williams will return by opening night and getting Jones Jr. and Simonovic back in the mix is a big help. Guard Coby White is still expected to miss time into mid-November while he recovers from a shoulder ailment. Hopefully, Tony Bradley will be cleared to play as he could provide the Bulls additional big-man depth as the regular season approaches.
