It was a telling week for teams like Cincinnati, Houston, and Arizona State, but now they each have a shortened rest period after big wins. Can they channel that momentum and remain victorious this week? If you’ve been tailing all season, after a 12-10-1 week you’re 69-54-5 on the year. Here are this week’s college football betting plays for the Thursday/Friday slate.
Houston at Tulane (Over 60)
Houston went on the road to Tulsa and not only covered as road underdogs, but they also won outright. You already know that though because you tailed my advice. Houston now travels to 1-4 Tulane as favorites. The last two games between these teams have gone way over the line total, and I don’t see why that doesn’t happen again this year.
Six of the Green Wave’s last seven games in October have gone over the points line. Four of the last five Tulane games this season have gone over. Tulane (1-4) has allowed 40 points in all but one game. The over is 4-0 when Houston plays a team with a losing record.
Coastal Carolina at Arkansas State (Coastal Carolina -20)
No. 15 Coastal Carolina looks to keep rolling through the Sun Belt as they travel to Arkansas State, and it should be a tough task. The Chanticleers are 3-1-1 ATS this year and 6-0 ATS in their last six games in October.
The spread opened at 17 and has moved to 20 on most books. Arkansas State has never lost to Coastal Carolina at home. Arkansas State last played the Chanticleers at home in 2019 but were 14-point favorites. Coastal Carolina will stay undefeated and cover this. After all, they’ve covered spreads of 30 or more points the last two weeks.
Temple at Cincinnati (Temple +29, Under 54)
The Bearcats are coming off arguably the best win in program history after defeating Notre Dame in South Bend.
That means one thing. The infamous letdown the week after is coming. Yes, the Bearcats will probably still win, but Temple has covered the spread in this matchup in each of the last five games. Despite the Bearcats 3-1 record ATS, it’s hard to believe they will cover almost 30 points on a short week. Temple also rides in on the heels of a comeback win over Memphis.
With that said, the under is in play as well. The under has hit in 19 of Cincinnati’s last 23 October games. The Bearcats defense really showed out against Notre Dame and that trend should continue. Cincinnati’s offense has shown struggles in the first half this season. They went to halftime trailing Indiana and only scored seven points in the first half against Murray State. Coming off the short week, I’m not sure they will be a well-oiled machine for all four quarters.
Stanford at Arizona State (Arizona State -13.5)
Stanford has been a team I have yet to figure out. They beat USC outright as double-digit underdogs, lost to UCLA, but rebounded to defeat Oregon last week. Arizona State took care of UCLA handily, but they did lose to BYU in the second game of the season.
At this point, the money is in on Arizona State. The spread opened at 9.5 and moved to 13.5. These teams haven’t played each other since 2018. Arizona State is 4-0 ATS in its last four conference games.
After big wins against ranked opponents last week, Arizona State leans more so here with home-field advantage. The Sun Devils were never a doubt to defeat UCLA while Oregon blew a lead to Stanford. There’s just been more consistency for Arizona State.
