Per the Chicago Blackhawks via an official release, defenseman Caleb Jones will miss six weeks with a left wrist strain.

Jones was acquired from the Edmonton Oilers this offseason in the Duncan Keith trade. After a very solid preseason, Jones cemented himself as one of the team’s top six defensemen. Now, after the injury to Wyatt Kalynuk as well, the Blackhawks already have to dip into their defensive depth before they play their first game.

According to multiple reports, Jakub Galvas is a defenseman making noise in the preseason. In addition, players such as Nicolas Beaudin, Ian Mitchell, and Alec Regula may get looks while Jones and Kalynuk miss time.

In 33 games last season, Jones tallied four assists for the Oilers. This preseason, Jones already has tallied one goal and has been a pleasant surprise throughout said preseason. However, fans will have to wait to see the younger Jones brother on the ice thanks to his wrist strain.
