On Friday evening, the Chicago Bulls announced the signing of rookie forward Troy Baxter Jr.
The forward averaged 15.5 points per game last year while playing for Morgan State. He was eligible for the 2021 NBA Draft, but he went undrafted. This isn’t the first time the Bulls have shown interest in Baxter Jr., as he was a member of the team’s Summer League roster.
Despite minimal playing time with the Summer League squad, Baxter Jr. made the most of the time he did get. He consistently showed off his electrifying athleticism through a barrage of dunks, including this ferocious slam that he threw down courtesy of a Simi Shittu lob.
The Bulls have clearly put an emphasis on athleticism with their additions this summer and signing Baxter Jr. continues that trend. Despite being a rookie, Troy Baxter Jr. would already be the sixth-oldest player on the roster. Of all draft-eligible players in 2021, Baxter was the elder statesman at 25 years old. In fact, the rookie is 2,000 days older than second-year forward Patrick Williams.
