Blackhawks’ Colliton Not on the Hot Seat, Shocking or Not?

Per reports, Chicago Blackhawks HC Jeremy Colliton is not on the hot seat. Should this come as a surprise to Blackhawks fans?

Jeremy Colliton Blackhawks

According to a report from Frank Seravelli, Blackhawks head coach Jeremy Colliton is not on the hot seat after the team’s 0-2-1 start.

Its no secret that the majority of Blackhawks fans do not like the 36-year-old head coach. However, just because the fans are calling for someone new doesn’t mean Colliton lacks the faith of both the front office and his players.

In a recent article from The Athletic’s Mark Lazerus, he noted that despite the fans’ lack of love for Colliton, the players feel the exact opposite about the situation. In fact, Patrick Kane is one of JC’s biggest supporters. Here’s a quote as an example:

“I think we’re a good enough team, well-enough coached, to get out from underneath this and turn it around… We’ll find a way to turn it around. Like I said, I have a lot of confidence in the team we have, the coaching staff.”

Noted Jeremy Colliton doubter and fellow Four Feathers Podcast co-host Tony Marchese will likely say Kane is just putting on a brave face, or saying the right things. However, when the entire team talks about buying in to JC’s philosophy, its hard to say they’re all just making it up. In fact, if they were, the Blackhawks would have been picking much higher in the draft than they have in years past with inferior rosters to this year’s squad.

How to Fix It?

The magic question for the 2021-22 Blackhawks is how do they fix the problem? The team is clearly in favor of Colliton, and have admitted the success they’ve had when playing Jeremy’s system. However, how do the Blackhawks fix the slow starts and the 0-2-1 record in their first three games?

Faster starts are something they would like to achieve. However, as a team that notoriously starts slow in most games, perhaps a more conservative style early in games may help? It’s easier to battle back from a 0-0 or 1-1 tie after the first period than a three- or four-goal hole.

The Blackhawks have the talent on the roster to succeed. Jonathan Toews, Kane, Alex DeBrincat, Seth Jones, Marc-Andre Fleury, and others have the ability to guide this team to the playoffs. However, if the group comprised of many new faces cannot gel sooner than later, they will find themselves in a hole that is tough to dig out of.

Starting the season with four losses in a row? Sweet. For the opposing teams, that is.

It’s either the players themselves or the system. If only the team had some quality players, like a Vezina-winning goalie or one of the best American players ever…

Maybe Colliton has the faith of the front office, but fans have the last word via their wallets.
