REPORT: Coby White a Possible Trade Candidate for Bulls?

Per a report, executives around the NBA believe Bulls guard Coby White is a potential trade piece this season.

According to a report from Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, many executives around the NBA believe Coby White is a possible trade piece. With the former first-round pick moving to a bench role in 2021-22, there is belief he is expendable.

There is certainly some sense in the report. White is now a bench player on the new-look Chicago Bulls, and if he can be moved to help address other areas on the roster, then why not explore it? However, White can still be incredibly valuable as a shooter off the bench to pair with Alex Caruso. Perhaps White and Caruso become the fearsome twosome as the first two off the bench in Chicago once White returns from injury?

Over the course of his young career, the former Tar Heel is averaging 14.2 PPG, 3.8 RPG, and 3.8 APG. Clearly White has predominantly been a scorer, which makes his role off the bench so appealing. The third-year guard showed incredible offensive potential last season that a role off the bench will potentially be beneficial. As witnessed last season, when White is asked to be a scorer rather than a facilitator, he tends to thrive on the court.

The Bulls are back in action on Thursday, October 28 at the United Center. The Bulls welcome Tom Thibodeau, Derrick Rose, and the New York Knicks to town on Joakim Noah night.

With AK at the helm I’m sure all options are open. I think the team really needs to wait until White returns and see how he pairs with AC. The Bulls bench is really lacking in shooters. AC is a great asset off the bench in that he can run the offense and plays great defense both on ball and as a helper. He is a good shooter, but a reluctant one. The rest of the bench is young and has some great energy guys but there are no play makers and not much 3pt shooting. Colby could address most of that and he is still on a rookie contract (this year and next) meaning he could be giving you a quality scorer on a budget. From what I can see after the preseason and 4 regular season games is we need more size on the front line. We need a Taj type forward who is athletic and a defense first type. We got killed on the boards last game and I worry when we play the Knicks tonight who do we really have to cover Randal, let alone when we face the Bucks and the Greek Freak. One thing for sure is the Bulls have a real team this year, I think more tweaking is needed but the core is great and the Bulls seem one or two moves away from being a true contender (and not major moves, more like when Krause traded Oakley for Cartwright).
