The Chicago Blackhawks recalled defenseman Isaak Phillips from the Rockford IceHogs on Thursday afternoon.

In a corresponding move, the team assigned defenseman Ian Mitchell to Rockford. Mitchell has one assist while averaging just 8:36 of ice time in three games for the Blackhawks this season.

The Blackhawks selected Phillips in the fifth round (No. 141 overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft. The 6-foot-3, 194-pound blue-liner signed a three-year entry-level deal with the team on March 31, 2021.

Through four games of the 2021-22 season, Phillips has two assists and a +2 rating for the IceHogs. He recorded nine points (two goals, seven assists) in 27 games with Rockford last season.

This swap on the back end will allow the Blackhawks to get a look at Phillips while Mitchell sees more ice time in Rockford. With Riley Stillman still in COVID-19 protocol, Isaak Phillips looks to be in line to make his NHL debut on Friday in Carolina.
