The Chicago Blackhawks requested Brad Aldrich’s name be removed from the Stanley Cup, according to a report by Emily Kaplan of ESPN.

Aldrich, a video coach for the Blackhawks during their 2010 Stanley Cup championship season, allegedly sexually assaulted former prospect Kyle Beach in May 2010. The letter by Blackhawks chairman Rocky Wirtz to the Hockey Hall of Fame comes two days after findings from an independent investigation by Jenner & Block LLP of Beach’s allegations against Aldrich were made public.

Wirtz called Aldrich’s behavior “unforgivable” and said Aldrich’s “conduct disqualified him” from being included on the Cup.

“I am humbly requesting that the Hockey Hall of Fame consider ‘x-ing’ out his name on the Stanley Cup,” Wirtz wrote. “While nothing can undo what he did, leaving his name on the most prestigious trophy in sports seems profoundly wrong.”

Following the investigation, the NHL fined the Blackhawks $2 million for “inadequate internal procedures and insufficient and untimely response in the handling of matters” related to the incident.

Stan Bowman also “stepped aside” as president of hockey operations and general manager of the Blackhawks. Bowman was replaced by Kyle Davidson, who joined the Blackhawks in 2010 as a hockey operations intern and became assistant GM of hockey administration earlier this year.
