The 2021 Big Ten Tournament MVP. The 38th pick overall in the 2021 NBA Draft. The Chicago Bulls rookie, Ayo Dosunmu, came to play. As a second-round pick, Dosunmu has forced his way into the team’s rotation early this season. His teammates have taken notice of his hard work, as well as head coach Billy Donovan.

“It’s not surprising. I remember watching him in college and the toughness that he brought. Joining a team and getting to know him, his personality, the humbleness that he carries himself with along with the toughness, it’s definitely one of a kind. He’s definitely the epitome of a Chicago kid.”

DeMar DeRozan on Ayo Dosunmu

“He’s got a certain kind of makeup that I think is really special. He’s ultra-competitive and he has unbelievable confidence and belief in himself. But it’s not cross-the-line arrogant. That’s really a hard combination. He just is fearless. And he’s got a way about him with the way he competes defensively. He’s not afraid.”

Bulls’ HC Billy Donovan on Dosunmu

Everything stated in the quotes above from KC Johnson’s article rang true in last night’s victory over the Boston Celtics. Dosunmu entered the game and played with a poise that proves he’s mature beyond his years. The Illinois alum came into a high-profile road game and didn’t disappoint. Dosunmu put up 14 points, two assists, and four rebounds in 21 minutes. He didn’t miss a shot. Dosunmu went 6-6 from the field and 2-2 from long range. He was a major player in the Bulls’ 19-point comeback against the Celtics.

With all the calmness and poise Dosunmu possesses, he’s been quite the energy guy off the bench. In his last two games, he is a +32 while on the court. He is quickly turning into a “pesky” defender and has shown the ability to hit big shots or make the right pass for a bucket.

The 6-foot-5 guard shared what he feared after the game after hearing Billy Donovan’s comments about him playing with “no fear.”

The Chicago Bulls and Ayo Dosunmu are just getting started. If he continues getting the run he currently is, Dosunmu could potentially be a very valuable bench piece come playoff time.
