The MLB offseason is officially underway, and the first inklings of what the 2022 White Sox will look like are starting to take shape. Per Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times, Tony La Russa said his White Sox coaching staff will return for the 2022 season.
Now, we are less than 24 hours into the offseason and there are quite a few more pressing needs for the team than what the coaching staff will look like, but it is nice to have a semblance of clarity heading into such an uncertain offseason. As with anything in sports, this is all subject to change.
This information may draw ire from some White Sox fans who have been vocal about the team’s lack of fly balls, and specifically fly balls that leave the park. Here is just one rather interesting stat about the 2021 White Sox and their groundball-hitting tendencies.
Such statistics have put most of the spotlight squarely on hitting coach Frank Menechino, who back in May famously told reporters, “Fuck the home run, let’s hit .300,” when addressing a question about Andrew Vaughn.
While no rumors have surfaced regarding Frank Menechino potentially being replaced as the hitting coach, if the front office were to make a change to the White Sox coaching staff, this could have been the most understandable.
However, it seems as though Frank Menechino and the rest of the staff will return in 2022 along with Tony La Russa.
