Matt Nagy returned to Halas Hall on Thursday after being out for eight days with COVID-19. Nagy tested positive after the absolute beatdown the Tampa Bay Buccaneers handed the Chicago Bears on October 24. Special Teams coordinator Chris Tabor had assumed head coaching responsibilities in Nagy’s absence.

Nothing changed for the Bears in Nagy’s absence in terms of results. They lost to the San Francisco 49ers at home mostly due to a defensive collapse. Now that Nagy is back at Halas Hall, he will prepare the Bears for their Monday Night Football matchup against the 4-3 Pittsburgh Steelers.

It was also announced that David Montgomery will return to practice this week. Montgomery suffered a knee injury in Week 4 against the Detroit Lions, an unfortunate break after he experienced a great deal of success through his first four games. On the season, he has rushed for 309 yards and has scored three touchdowns. There is some hope he may be able to return Monday against the Steelers, but the Bears will evaluate him further in practice leading up to the game.

In Montgomery’s absence, rookie Khalil Herbet thrived. He has rushed for 344 yards and one touchdown on the season.
