The Chicago Blackhawks will be without forward MacKenzie Entwistle for 4-6 weeks. The team placed him on long-term injured reserve with a left ankle injury Tuesday morning.

Entwistle suffered the injury in the third period of the Blackhawks’ overtime win against the Nashville Predators on Sunday night. His last shift occurred just over halfway through the final regulation frame.

“He’s worked hard to get to this level… It’s kind of a setback for him. I feel for him. Injuries like that, they take a little bit, but hopefully when he comes back, he’s stronger,” interim head coach Derek King said of Entwistle’s injury.

In 12 games this season, the 22-year-old has three points (two goals, one assist) and a -4 rating while averaging 11:01 of ice time.

The Blackhawks recalled forward Reese Johnson from the Rockford IceHogs on Monday, perhaps in anticipation of Entwistle missing time. But the Hawks currently have question marks elsewhere among the forward group as well.

Brandon Hagel, who exited Sunday’s game in the third period due to a left shoulder injury, will miss Tuesday’s game vs. the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Henrik Borgstrom exited COVID-19 protocol on November 3 but has not returned to game action yet. He will miss Tuesday’s game vs. the Pittsburgh Penguins due to a non-COVID-related illness.
