According to the Chicago Sun-Times’ Ben Pope, the Chicago Blackhawks will be without Brandon Hagel on Tuesday night. In addition to the news, there will not be an update on Hagel’s situation until tomorrow. Oddly, this suggests more tests or a second opinion is required.

A lineup without Hagel on Tuesday is not a good sign. Although he only makes $1.5 million per season, Hagel is more important than his contract suggests. He plays a fast, but rough style and provides incredible depth scoring for the Hawks. In fact, entering action on Tuesday, Hagel is tied for fifth on the team in points with six (four goals, two assists). Without Hagel on Tuesday night, the Blackhawks may have to turn to Adam Gaudette to fill his shoes. Henrik Borgstrom is also unavailable with a non-COVID illness.

In addition to being without Hagel on Tuesday, the Blackhawks will also be without MacKenzie Entwistle. The 22-year-old power forward was placed on LTIR with an ankle injury that will force him to miss four-to-six weeks. The team’s depth will be tested with Tyler Johnson and Isaak Phillips remain on the COVID-19 list, and the team is still without Caleb Jones and Wyatt Kalynuk.

Moving Forward

Amid the injury information, the lines will likely look like Monday’s practice lines minus Borgstrom.

Based on the amount of injuries, it won’t be a surprise if all three of the names listed as rotational players enter the lineup on Tuesday.

As the Blackhawks await more news on Hagel’s status, the team welcomes the 4-3-3 Pittsburgh Penguins to the United Center on Tuesday night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CST. The Penguins are 1-3-1 in their last five games, so Tuesday presents an opportunity for the Blackhawks to take advantage of the Pens while their stars are out.
