The Chicago Fire have reportedly selected their next head coach. According to reports, Ezra Hendrickson will become the 10th (excluding interims) head coach in the Fire’s history.

Hendrickson will come over from rival Columbus Crew where he has served as an assistant coach under Caleb Porter since the 2019 season. A native of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Hendrickson needed to take a leave of absence earlier this season. However, he returned midway through the season.

The 49-year old has also been an assistant for the Los Angeles Galaxy (2018) and Seattle Sounders (2009-2014) and the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines national team (2015-18).

According to reports, Hendrickson beat out Fire legend Ante Razov and Sporting Kansas City II Head Coach Paulo Nagamura for the position. While Hendrickson has yet to manage at the MLS level, he did manage for Seattle Sounders II (2014-18). However, he did capture just 37 wins in 124 matches (30%) along with 22 draws.

Hendrickson made 264 appearances in the MLS spanning 14 seasons. He played at the likes of MetroStars, Los Angeles Galaxy, Dallas Burn, DC United, and Columbus Crew.

The Fire are expected to announce the deal shortly.
