Four-star recruit Ty Rodgers has committed to Illinois basketball, making the program a top-20 class nationally for 2022.

Rodgers, who made an unofficial visit to Illinois last week, joins a 2022 class that includes Jayden Epps and Sencire Harris. Both are four-star recruits that signed their national letters of intent last week.

The 6-foot-7, 195-pound forward is the No. 53 prospect in the class of 2022, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Rodgers’ intent boosts Illinois 2022 class ranking from No. 38 to No. 17. Illinois now owns the No. 5 recruiting class in the Big Ten for next year.

Michigan State, Michigan, Alabama, Memphis, Florida State, Ohio State, and Purdue were just a few programs interested in the highly touted prospect.

The Michigan native transferred from Grand Blanc to Thornton, Ill. for his senior season. He plays for the Chicago-based AAU team known as MeanStreets. Illinois assistant coach Tim Anderson made an immediate impact in the Illini landing Rodgers. Anderson is the former director of the MeanStreets AAU squad.

Despite losing multiple assistants to Kentucky this offseason, it hasn’t stopped Brad Underwood from landing top-tier talent not only in-state but also outside the Land of Lincoln.
