The Chicago Bulls have turned themselves into a competitive team in 2021. The complete roster overhaul that took place this past offseason has them competing night in and night out. The Bulls currently rank third in the Eastern Conference standings at 10-5. They are 0.5 games back of the top seed. The two best players on the team, DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine, have fueled much of the early success. Now, both players rank among NBA.com’s MVP Ladder 15 games into the season.

DeMar DeRozan

DeRozan has been on an absolute tear since joining the Chicago Bulls. The 13-year NBA veteran is currently averaging career-highs in points per game and three-point percentage. He is averaging 26.6 PPG on 18.8 shot attempts per game.

DeRozan’s mid-range game has been considered a dying art in today’s NBA, but clearly, he is making it work. Over his last four games, DeRozan is averaging 28.3 PPG, 5.3 APG, and 4 RPG. He’s done this on the road due to the Bulls playing their five-game West Coast trip. The seasoned veteran is putting up incredible numbers as the Bulls head into the last game of their grueling road swing.

Zach LaVine

Despite dealing with a thumb injury, LaVine has still been as effective as ever to start the season. The All-Star is averaging 26.2 PPG, 5.7 RPG, and 3.7 APG. He is shooting 49% from the field and 40% from beyond the arc.

It’s also worth noting how good LaVine has been on defense this season. That’s certainly a major reason he is in the MVP race. Once known as just a pure scorer, LaVine has put time and effort into improving his game at both ends of the court. During the Bulls’ road trip, LaVine has averaged 27 PPG, 6.3 RPG, and 2.3 APG. The guard is also shooting 50% from three on 10 attempts during this span.
