When LaVar Ball talks, people listen. Over the weekend, a “Big Baller” pop-up shop appeared in Chicago and Ball made some typical outlandish comments.
“Now I say my boys are going to be the first billionaires to play basketball,” Ball said. ”Individuals, we’re all millionaires. But as a family, we’ll be billionaires.”
LaVar is a character, no doubt. But a lot of the things he’s said in the past have come true. He is a marketing genius and a very supportive and driven father. No one can take that away from him.
During this sit-down interview, Ball said he met with Arturas Karnisovas, the Vice President of Basketball Operations for the Chicago Bulls. Surely this was taken light-heartedly by Karnisovas, but Ball was as serious as can be about his boys teaming together.
Ball said he wants all three of his sons playing together because, “By themselves, they are good. But together, they’re great.”
Lonzo Ball just signed a four-year, $85 million contract with the Bulls this summer. LaMelo Ball will not be a free agent until 2024, and even then he will enter restricted free agency, meaning the Charlotte Hornets can match any offer he receives. It’s also not very likely the reigning NBA Rookie of the Year will get moved anytime soon. Their middle brother, LiAngelo, is playing in the G League for the Greensboro Swarm. Obtaining him wouldn’t pose much of a challenge.
Who knows? Maybe one day LaVar Ball’s vision will come to fruition. But until then, the Big Baller Brand CEO will keep speaking about his prophecy until it becomes a reality.
