The Chicago Bears are preparing for the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. Amidst Justin Fields’ return to practice this week, the rookie quarterback has not been medically cleared to play. With that said, Bears head coach Matt Nagy announced Andy Dalton will start this Sunday at Solider Field.

As indicated in the above tweet, Fields will be inactive this week. Nick Foles will serve as Dalton’s backup against the Cardinals. This will be Dalton’s second consecutive start after coming in relief for Fields against the Ravens in Week 11.

Last week in the win over the Lions, Dalton went 24-39 with 307 yards through the air and a touchdown pass. The Red Rifle threw a single interception, but overall he played a strong game on Thanksgiving. Now, Dalton has quite the test ahead against a very solid Cardinals defense.

Jenkins to be Activated

In addition to the Dalton news, the Bears announced Teven Jenkins will be activated off the IR on Saturday.

Although the news is encouraging, Nagy has already confirmed that the Bears have no plans to start Jenkins. That said, this gives the rookie a chance to suit up and be with the team the rest of the season. In addition, if there are any significant injuries to the two starting tackles, Jenkins would be able to step in as an emergency option.

The Bears and Cardinals kick-off at noon on Sunday at Solider Field. If Kyler Murray and DeAndre Hopkins play, and the rain comes as the forecast indicates, Sunday should be an interesting battle on the lakefront.
