Just before tip-off last night in Chicago, it was announced that DeMar DeRozan would miss the Bulls’ game against the Nuggets. The forward entered the NBA’s health and safety protocols.
There was hope that it may have been due to a false-positive COVID-19 test, but as of right now, it looks like DeRozan will miss several games. The Bulls have already announced that he will not travel with the team to Cleveland for Wednesday night’s matchup with the Cavaliers.
For DeRozan to clear protocols, he must produce two negative tests in the span of 24 hours. So, the Bulls will have to prepare for life without him for the foreseeable future.
On the season, DeRozan is putting up All-Star numbers. He is averaging 26.4 PPG, 5.3 RPG, and 4.1 APG while leading the league in fourth-quarter scoring. DeRozan is also the reigning the Eastern Conference Player of the Week.
The next-man-up mentality will ring true for the Bulls for now. Luckily, Chicago’s schedule isn’t as nearly as difficult as it was in November. Hopefully the team can hold the fort down until DeRozan is ready to return.
