White Sox SS Tim Anderson Offers to Play for Bulls

While Tim Anderson is joking, the All-Star shortstop is still very familiar with the hardwood.

After the news of Alize Johnson being the most recent Bulls player to hit the COVID list, the team is down to the league minimum of eight active players. Fans began joking on Twitter about when tryouts were going to happen so the Bulls can roster a team. And White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson hilariously threw his hat into the ring.

During MLB’s lockout, Anderson has nothing to keep him busy for a while. While the All-Star shortstop is joking, Anderson is still very familiar with the hardwood.

Prior to making baseball his No. 1 sport, Anderson was a basketball star in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He helped lead Hillcrest High School to a state championship. But due to achy knees at the start of his junior year, Anderson switched his focus to baseball. He batted .333 as left fielder his junior year and posted a .420 average as an infielder his senior year.

Anderson attended East Central Community College in Decatur, Mississippi. He batted .360 during his sophomore year. Anderson was not selected in the 2012 MLB Draft, so he returned to school for his junior year. Anderson broke out by hitting .495, which drew interest from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).

Before Anderson could play a game at UAB, the White Sox drafted him in 2013. He has been with the organization ever since.

Anderson has never been shy about coming up clutch. His walk-off home run to win the Field of Dreams game exemplifies that quality. Obviously it won’t happen, but seeing Tim Anderson fill in the Bulls backcourt with Alex Caruso on Tuesday night against the Pistons would be quite the sight.
