The Chicago White Sox have signed second baseman D.J. Burt to a minor-league contract.
The Royals originally selected Burt in the fourth round of the 2014 MLB Draft and he has also spent time in the Twins and Diamondbacks systems. According to Baseball America, Burt is 5-foot-9, 160 lbs, and spent last season at the A+ and AA levels. Across the three teams he played for in 2021, Burt hit .286 with a .370 OBP while also swiping 22 bases.
He also shows some occasional pop, as seen below.
This is an intriguing add for a White Sox team that currently lacks second-base depth. While D.J. Burt likely won’t have much of an impact on the MLB roster in 2022, organizational depth is important. According to the MiLB website, Burt has been placed on the White Sox Double-A Birmingham roster.
