Chicago Blackhawks prospect Landon Slaggert is currently in Red Deer, Alberta preparing for the World Juniors with his USA teammates. The 19-year-old forward received some exciting news on Tuesday when Team USA named him an alternate captain for the upcoming tournament.
The Blackhawks selected Slaggert in the third round (No. 79 overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft. He is in his sophomore season at Notre Dame, where he has 10 points (five goals, five assists) in 17 games. During his freshman year, he posted 22 points (eight goals, 14 assists) in 25 games.
The 2022 World Juniors won’t be Landon Slaggert’s first time representing his country. He played in the 2021 tournament but did not record a point in seven games. He did take home a gold medal, however.
As he looks to make more of an impact on the score sheet this time around, he’ll be doing it in a leadership role with a letter on his chest.
Team USA opens its 2022 World Juniors slate with a tilt against Slovakia on Dec. 26 at 8:30 PM CST.
