Bears Injury Report: Justin Fields Did Not Practice, More Woes Persist

The Bears’ injury report grew today and it has fans concerned about their young quarterback.

The Bears released their Thursday injury report and it contains some more bad news. After losing Akiem Hicks, Chicago may be without their starting quarterback as well. Justin Fields did not practice today as he continues to deal with an ankle injury.

After Monday’s loss to the Vikings, Fields said he sustained the injury in-game and fought through it. He was limited in practice yesterday and as the week continues, it doesn’t appear that he’s getting any better.

Jason Peters and Jakeem Grant Sr.

The Bears still have a ton of players out. Their entire team has been hit very hard on multiple fronts. Jason Peters is still out with an ankle injury, which means Teven Jenkins will continue to see reps down the home stretch of the season.

Jenkins is off to a rough start and Peters played surprisingly well in 2021. At almost 40 years old, this injury could easily mark the beginning of the end of his tenure in Chicago. In the meantime, he continues to help groom his rookie replacement. With his help, Jenkins could become something quite astounding.

Jakeem Grant Sr. is still dealing with a concussion he suffered on Monday night. Just hours after becoming a 2022 Pro Bowl return specialist, Grant Sr. took a hard hit and did not return to the game against Minnesota.

Who Will Play QB vs. Seattle?

The Bears play the Seattle Seahawks in less than 72 hours. Justin Fields does not have a lot of time left to practice and get healthy. Chicago did welcome Andy Dalton back to the team after removing him from the Reserve/COVID-19 list, so there is a chance he could get the start over Fields. This could be due to the poor performance by the young quarterback, which wouldn’t be too shocking, or to avoid further injuries.

The latter is the far more important concern as the season dwindles down. Justin Fields did not practice today and likely won’t until he’s fully healthy. Losing him for any long period of time, especially in a meaningless season, is a problem that even Matt Nagy can avoid.
