Justin Fields Limited in Practice Wednesday with Ankle Injury

There shouldn’t be too much cause for concern yet, but it’s worth keeping an eye on the availability of Bears’ quarterbacks as Sunday approaches.

As the Chicago Bears continue to navigate through the recent COVID-19 surge, they now are dealing with an injury issue to their potential franchise quarterback. On Wednesday, head coach Matt Nagy announced that quarterback Justin Fields was limited in practice with an ankle injury.

Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic noted before Wednesday’s practice that Fields has actually been dealing with the ankle injury for a bit of time. He tweaked the injury during Monday night’s loss to the Minnesota Vikings. The rookie quarterback didn’t show many ailing signs with his ankle despite being under pressure most of the game, as he has been all season since becoming the starter.

In all, Fields and wide receiver Marquise Goodwin were limited participants for a walkthrough on Wednesday. Additionally, cornerback Xavier Crawford, offensive tackle Jason Peters, and wide receiver Jakeem Grant did not participate.

Current Quarterback Situation

There shouldn’t be too much cause for concern regarding Justin Fields’ availability throughout the week. However, his status is worth watching as the team prepares to take on the Seattle Seahawks this Sunday.

Currently, the Bears are without quarterback Andy Dalton, who is on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. His status for Sunday’s game is still up in the air. If the Bears can’t activate Dalton in time and Fields is unable to play against the Seahawks, the team would turn to veteran Nick Foles to make his first career start of the season.

Throughout his rookie season, Fields has started 10 games and missed two games due to a rib injury. The Ohio State product has dealt with additional injuries, including a bruised left hand and now the ankle injury. There are still a few days remaining for Fields to get back to full participation in practice, and be ready for the Seahawks on Sunday.
