Bears’ fans who were only hanging on to the rest of the season to see Justin Fields’ development will be disappointed this week. Veteran backup Nick Foles will start at quarterback against the Seahawks on Sunday.

Fields’ latest status was questionable due to an ankle injury he sustained in Monday night’s loss to the Vikings. He played through the ailment but it kept him out of practice on Thursday. Now, head coach Matt Nagy will turn to Foles for the Week 16 matchup.

Last season, Nick Foles appeared in nine games and started seven of those. He threw for 1,852 yards with a 64.7% completion percentage.

Andy Dalton would typically be the backup, but he just returned from the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Thursday.

With Chicago eliminated from the playoff picture, there is no reason to beat up Fields’ body anymore. The rookie signal-caller has been sacked 36 times this season and also suffered cracked ribs in Week 11. The best thing the Bears can do is rest Fields and save him for the post-Nagy regime.
