Prior to Sunday’s battle with the Seahawks, the Bears flexed multiple players from the practice squad to the active roster. Those five players are QB Ryan Willis, WR Dazz Newsome, WR Nsimba Webster, CB Dee Virgin, and OLB Ledarius Mack.
The most notable name on the list is rookie Dazz Newsome. He will get an opportunity to showcase what he can bring to the Bears’ offense for the second consecutive week.
Newsome made his NFL debut on Monday night against the Vikings. Fields only targeted Newsome one time and the Bears’ offense looked dreadful in the 17-9 loss. Fields was under pressure on seemingly every dropback, so even if Newsome got open, Fields didn’t have time to deliver the ball.
Against Seattle this week, Nick Foles will start at quarterback. Fields sustained an ankle injury that he played through Monday. He struggled to participate in practice all week so Nagy defaulted to Foles as the starter.
With the Bears have now eliminated from the playoff picture, Newsome needs to see these late-season snaps regardless of who is under center. He was a sixth-round selection in 2021 and needs further evaluation. Based on his college days, Newsome certainly has potential. The only way to find out if that can translate over to the NFL is by getting him on the field.
