With No. 1 goalie Marc-Andre Fleury in COVID Protocol, the Chicago Blackhawks have added Arvid Soderblom to the taxi squad. He joins forward Brett Connolly among the team’s depth group.
The NHL recently reinstated the taxi squad as teams navigate COVID-19 outbreaks.
Soderblom has a 3.15 goals-against average and a 91.5 save percentage in nine games for the AHL Rockford IceHogs this season. Fellow Rockford netminder Collin Delia is also up with the Blackhawks after the team recalled him on Monday.
With the NHL shortening its COVID isolation period to five days, there’s a chance Marc-Andre Fleury could return in time for the Blackhawks’ Jan. 1 game at Nashville. Even Derek King is unsure exactly when Fleury entered protocol, but the team announced his status on Monday.
Regardless, Arvid Soderblom likely won’t see NHL action. Kevin Lankinen and Collin Delia are both on the active roster and Lankinen would seemingly start in net if Fleury is not back in time.
