After four years as head coach, the Chicago Bears reportedly told Matt Nagy he will not be returning as head coach in 2022. According to NFL insider Boomer Esiason, the Bears already informed Nagy of his fate.

Nagy’s Failures

After a lucky 12-4 first year, Nagy finished .500 or worse in his last three seasons. The Bears brought Nagy in under the assumption that he was an offensive guru from the Andy Reid coaching tree. As fans know, he exhibited none of that. His offenses have never ranked higher than 21st in total yards, and aside from 2018, the team’s scoring has never ranked higher than the 20s.

What’s On Tap Next For the Bears With Nagy Out?

All heads now turn to Ryan Pace and his situation. The Bears gave Ryan Pace two opportunities to hire coaches. Fans are interested to see if the McCaskeys will give him another chance. If Chicago retains Pace, it could be a deterrent for new head coaching candidates to come work for a GM already on the hot seat.
