The Chicago Bears will play their final game of the season on Sunday when they visit the Vikings in Minnesota. However, the day began with some bad news on the health front for the team.

On Thursday morning the Bears’ bad luck struck again when scheduled starting quarterback Justin Fields landed on the reserve/COVID-19 list. The timing of that news will likely end his season.

Later in the afternoon, the team released their second to last injury report of the year. It contains good news but some bad news as well.

Bad News

First, the bad news. The Bears placed wide receiver and return specialist Jakeem Grant on injured reserve. It’s uncertain what the nature of his injury is. Nevertheless, Grant’s season has come to an end. In a corresponding move, Chicago signed linebacker John Daka to the practice squad.

Also in troubling news, Akiem Hicks missed his second straight practice with an ankle injury. Currently, his status for Sunday is uncertain. However, missing practices leading up to game day is usually not a good sign. It will be interesting to see if he can practice on Friday. If he does, it would give him a better chance to suit up against the Vikings.

Good News

As for the good news, the rest of the squad seems healthy and good to go for the game. Eddie Goldman (finger) and Duke Shelley (heel) both fully participated in their second straight day of practice. Additionally, Jimmy Graham (rest), Robert Quinn (shoulder), and Andy Dalton (groin) made their returns and practiced in full.

As of now, outside of Grant and Fields, the Bears should be relatively healthy for the season finale. Of course, this is barring any new injuries or positive COVID tests between now and kickoff.
