During the Chicago Bears end-of-season press conference, George McCaskey and Ted Phillips addressed the media. The media did a fantastic job of asking hard questions only to receive generalized answers. One of the most intriguing comments of the session came from Phillips, who said he has no regrets about hiring Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy, despite the results over the last seven years.
Did the Bears Win Enough Games? No. Did They Get The QB right? No.
Last year, Ted Phillips said the Bears didn’t win enough games and they didn’t get the quarterback position completely right. Obviously, he was referring to Mitchell Trubisky and the ineptitude Ryan Pace displayed by drafting the wrong quarterback.
When asked about that statement today, Phillips said:
“Clearly, we aren’t thrilled about the results this year.”
What is Ted Phillips doing on the call today if he isn’t displeased with the way the Bears’ 2021 season ended? Now, he’s not going to publicly slam the McCaskeys for what they decide, he’s smarter than that. But Bears fans have been told time and time again that Ted doesn’t have anything to do with football operations… yet here he is. George McCaskey specifically said that Ted will be helping him in the search for a new GM and head coach.
Ted Phillips Has No Regrets.. Really?
Does Ted Phillips truly have no regrets? It surely seems he’s saying these things just to be professional. The landscape of Phillips’ duties is publicly narrow, but privately it’s quite large. Clearly, George McCaskey relies on Ted Phillips and his decision-making.
