The Chicago Blackhawks will call up prospect Lukas Reichel from the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League. The Hawks plan to assign him to the taxi squad before getting him into NHL games “soon,” according to NBC Sports Chicago.

The 19-year-old forward earned AHL Player of the Week honors, scoring six points (three goals, three assists) in two games this past week. He had a four-point game (two goals, two assists) in an 8-0 win against the Chicago Wolves (Carolina Hurricanes) on Friday. The next night, he had a goal and assist in a 6-2 victory against the Milwaukee Admirals (Nashville Predators).

Reichel, who can play center or wing, leads the IceHogs in goals (11) and points (20) in 20 AHL games during his first season in North America. He spent the past two seasons as a teenager playing in Germany’s top professional league for Eisbären Berlin, winning the title in 2021.

The Blackhawks can have Reichel play up to nine NHL games this season before using the first year of his entry-level contract. If he plays less than 10 NHL games this season, his contract will slide and begin with the 2022-23 season.

The IceHogs, who haven’t played since Saturday, start a six-game homestand with a back-to-back against the Cleveland Monsters (Columbus Blue Jackets) this coming Friday and Saturday.

The Blackhawks have won two straight after a 2-1 win against the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday and 4-2 against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday. Chicago has two home games this week, Thursday against the Montreal Canadiens and against the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday.
