Netflix has announced it is partnering with the PGA Tour and the major championships for an all-access documentary series. Vox Media and Box To Box Films — the studio behind Formula 1: Drive to Survive — will produce the show.
The camera crew will be granted full access throughout 2022, including some of the biggest tournaments of the year. Per Netflix’s press release, the cameras will be rolling at THE PLAYERS Championship, the FedEx Cup, and the four majors. Over 20 PGA Tour players have committed to the show including some of the biggest names in the sport:
Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson not being on the list comes as no surprise. I’m a tad disappointed that Bryson DeChambeau isn’t on board, but that’s mostly because of the drama he’s sure to bring.
Netflix’s Formula 1: Drive to Survive provides incredible behind-the-scenes access to the drivers, their teams, and their personal lives. Golf is more of an individual sport, but I’m hoping to get a peek at the golfers spending time with the caddies and sponsorship teams.
Filming is underway and will continue throughout the 2022 season. Expect the show to premiere on Netflix in the weeks building up to the 2023 PGA season. Stay tuned for more updates on the new show as they become available.
