Perusing my local Binny’s, I came across this new beer from Pipeworks. But is it really new? It seems awfully familiar. Now, I know there was one called “Mammoth Unicorn” sometime last year. This one is called “Herd of Mammoth Unicorns,” so it’s natural to assume this one would be bigger and badder, right?

WRONG! The Herd is only 9% ABV while the Mammoth from last year was 9.5% ABV. How dare Pipeworks trick me like this.
The other Mammoth I had was way back in May of last year so I don’t remember exactly what it tasted like, but I do remember really enjoying it. Herd of Mammoth Unicorns is no different. There are a couple of different hops in this batch, most notably Azacca, which I love.
In all seriousness, the missing half a percentage point in ABV hardly makes a difference and this is a fantastic Imperial Hazy IPA. It’s jam-packed with juicy flavors and aromas. There is just enough bitterness to balance out the finish.
This Herd of Mammoth Unicorns was just canned on Jan. 6, so it’s fresh and available at Binny’s for $14.99.
Happy Drinking!
