The Chicago Blackhawks are expected to be among the NHL teams interested in signing Andrei Kuzmenko, according to Scott Powers of The Athletic.
Kuzmenko, who will turn 26 years old on Feb. 4, leads SKA St. Petersburg of the KHL in assists (33) and points (53) in 45 games this season. The 5-foot-11, 194-pound forward is in his fourth full-time KHL season.
Kuzmenko is teammates with former Rockford IceHogs goaltender Lars Johansson at SKA, the same KHL team former Blackhawks forward Artemi Panarin played for.
Kuzmenko was among 36 players named to Russia’s camp roster for the 2022 Beijing Olympics. He will be attend the camp with Blackhawks forward prospect Artur Kayumov, who plays for Lokomotiv Yaroslavl in the KHL. Andrei Kuzmenko should make Russia’s final 25-man roster for the Olympics and, if healthy, play in the World Championship later this year.
SKA, which hasn’t won the Gagarin Cup since 2017, leads the KHL Western Conference, and is five points back of Traktor for the league lead.
