The Chicago Bears kicked off the week by hosting introductory press conferences for new GM Ryan Poles and new head coach Matt Eberflus. There was one quote that stuck out to me as I listened to Poles speak: “We’re going to take the North and never give it back.”
Throughout the media session, Poles spoke with great confidence and conviction. Though, as a season ticket holder and die-hard fan, this quote in particular excites me. Poles plans to build through the draft and spend intelligently in free agency. He is looking to build a contending team that isn’t just a flash in the pan, but a threat to win the division consistently.
A lot of work needs to be done to make this happen. As everyone knows, especially in the professional sports landscape, talk is cheap. But the confidence Poles possesses is almost contagious. I will admit that I was skeptical of his hiring, but after his comments, I feel like he was the right hire. Obviously, I could be completely wrong and this could turn into the dumpster fire Bears fans have become accustomed to.
Taking a step back is important. Drop the worries and hurt of the past and let’s give this guy a chance. It seems he has a good idea of how to build a team. It won’t happen overnight, but for now, it appears that the Bears’ future could be bright under the leadership of Ryan Poles.
