Netflix has shared the first glance at its upcoming horror movie, Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The movie serves as a direct sequel to the first film The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974). You can check out the trailer below:

Texas Chainsaw Massacre takes place 50 years after the events of the original. A group of yutes head out to Harlow, TX to launch a business venture. Unfortunately for them, they stir up Leatherface by entering his home. From there, the madness gets real. Next, we meet another character from the original, Sally Hardesty. She survived the first movie and has seemingly been waiting for a taste of revenge.

What I Liked

I liked the tone of the trailer. I got the same vibe as the original, the same kind of grit. The trailer also made it clear that we will have ample gore. Leatherface’s reaction to being canceled via social media was perfect.

Why I’m Concerned

I don’t love all of these direct sequels decades after the original, only to ignore what happened in all the subsequent films. I enjoyed the Halloween movies, but I think it’s lazy. Part of what I love about crazy horror sequels is all of the threads they have to connect to keep the story canon, and the hilarious mistakes it leads to. From the trailer, that’s the only concern at the moment. It looks like it will be a solid slasher film and I hope it brings renewed interest to the IP. But, I don’t want to see every franchise just ignore the stories they’ve already established to make a movie simpler.

Rant over, if anyone needs me I’ll be outside letting the clouds know who the boss is.
