A Criminal Minds reboot is in the works at Paramount+ and several familiar cast members appear to be along for the ride. According to Nellie Andreeva of Deadline, Joe Mantegna, Kirsten Vangsness, Adam Rodriguez, A.J. Cook, Aisha Tyler, and Paget Brewster have agreed to return to the show.
Though recent reports are encouraging, several details still need to be ironed out. The actors still need to finalize contracts, which is an ongoing process. Andreeva notes the show’s lead studio, ABC Signature, is still working on a deal with executive producer/showrunner Erica Messer. That step, which paused over the holiday season, will need to take place before the actors can officially sign on.
Still, the aforementioned names agreeing to return is an exciting development for Criminal Minds fans. Here’s a handy list in case you need a refresher on who’s who in the show:
- Joe Mantegna as David Rossi
- Kirsten Vangsness as Penelope Garcia
- Adam Rodriguez as Luke Alvez
- A.J. Cook as Jennifer “JJ” Jareau
- Aisha Tyler as Dr. Tara Lewis
- Paget Brewster as Emily Prentiss
Andreeza also reports Paramount+ and ABC Signature/CBS Studios have reached a license agreement for a 10-episode installment. Even though there are more hoops to jump through, being at this stage in the process is much more encouraging than just over six months ago when Paget Brewster believed the show was “dead.”
Criminal Minds previously ran for 15 seasons. The first 12 currently stream on Netflix while Paramount+ carries all 15 seasons, so catch up before a potential Season 16!
