DeMar DeRozan met with the media Sunday night after the Chicago Bulls‘ loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. He was asked if the Bulls should add at the Feb. 10 trade deadline. His response was a testament to the kind of teammate that he is.
DeRozan said missing players like Lonzo Ball, Alex Caruso, and Patrick Williams has been a factor. He said they have those players and once they come back, that will be better than any trade the team can make. He also elaborated by saying any team in the NBA would want to have those guys on their team.
The Chicago Bulls are currently 0.5 games back of the first seed in the Eastern Conference. DeRozan is putting up MVP-like numbers this season. Despite all the injuries, DeRozan has been a model of consistency and is even in the MVP race. On the season, DeRozan is averaging 27.0 PPG, 5.2 RPG, and 5.1 APG. He is shooting 50% from the field and 33% from downtown.
More important than just the numbers, DeRozan is providing veteran leadership to his young teammates. He is often seen spending time off the court with Bulls players and building a bond that will help translate over to the court. With the Feb. 10 trade deadline approaching, it seems DeRozan thinks the Bulls have enough to win.
