
A burst of positive energy radiated from the Chicago Fire’s Monday morning press conference to introduce new midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri.
“We lacked winners,” said Fire FC Sporting Director Georg Heitz. ”Xherdan is a winner.”
The 30-year-old former Premier League star is expected to bring a plethora of knowledge and firepower to the club. “I love to work with young players,” said Shaqiri. ”It is important to give my experience to help this team.”
Shaqiri elaborated on his excitement for this opportunity by discussing some of his goals. ”I want trophies,” said Shaqiri. ”I want to go to the playoffs.” The Fire currently have 50/1 odds to win the MLS Championship in 2022.
Manager Ezra Hendrickson said to expect beautiful football and a lot of goals and assists with Shaqiri out on the pitch.
The Chicago Fire open their 2022 regular-season slate with a match against Inter Miami on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 5 PM CST. Xherdan Shaqiri stated that he is fit and ready to play on Saturday, pending coach’s decision.
