The Kansas City Chiefs announced they are hiring former offensive coordinator and ex-Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy. He will take on the role of senior assistant and quarterbacks coach.
Matt Nagy’s Rekindled Relationship With Kansas City
Before Nagy became the head coach of the Chicago Bears, he worked in Kansas City for five years. He was the quarterbacks coach for four of those seasons before becoming the offensive coordinator in the final year of his first stint with the Chiefs. Famously, Nagy’s offense spiraled out of control in a playoff loss to the Tennessee Titans when they failed to keep up the pressure to secure a win. After that postseason loss, the Bears hired Matt Nagy as their new head coach and the rest is history.
Nagy regains the position of quarterbacks coach for a fifth year but will also serve as a senior assistant. This feels like a fancy name for Andy Reid’s buddy and that’s likely all it will entail. The Chiefs’ offense has flourished without Nagy’s input and with Patrick Mahomes at the helm, so the Bears’ former head coach doesn’t have much work to do.
