This week’s edition of AEW Dynamite brought about a major purchase announcement and battles all over the place with some surprising results. If you missed any of the action, this rundown has you covered.
The show opened with Tony Schiavone in the ring alongside AEW CEO Tony Khan. They made quick work of their time in the ring. Khan announced that he purchased the Ring Of Honor. There will be plenty to look forward to, as Khan now owns the Ring Of Honor’s video library, intellectual property, and brand assets.
He then kicked the show off with a match featuring two wrestlers that battled on the first ROH show nearly 20 years ago.
Bryan Danielson vs. Christopher Daniels
This match started how most ROH matches did, with the code of honor and a handshake in the middle of the ring. You knew these two would put on a clinic for the fans, and they did not disappoint.
To no surprise, Danielson walked out the winner after making Christopher Daniels pass out. After the match, the attack continued and that made Jon Moxley appear. It seemed like things would break down, but Danielson rolled out of the ring.
15 Team Casino Tag Team Battle Royale
The match started with a surprise — the return of Top Flight. Darius Martin made his AEW return after nearly a year-long absence due to an ACL injury. As expected, this match brought about non-stop action. It’s hard to pick a winner in these types of battles given all the talent in this tag team division.
But the final three teams were FTR, Young Bucks, and Top Flight. reDRagon was out at the ringside and surprisingly helped the Young Bucks secure the win. They seem to be on the same page.
First, fans heard from Chris Jericho about his match with Eddie Kingston at Revolution. He mentioned that if somehow Kingston wins, he will respect him.
Next up was CM Punk in the ring to discuss some of his history and call out MJF. He wanted to know how serious he was last week. Punk extended his hand to MJF to show him some respect and MJF hugged him, only for him to turn around a few seconds later and kick him in the nuts. Right after that, the attack continued with the rest of The Pinnacle coming out to help MJF attack Punk. They did a number on him ahead of Sunday’s Dog Collar match.
Jamie Hayter & Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D vs. Mercedes Martinez & Thunder Rosa
This matchup started on the outside of the ring but moved to the ring quickly, controlled by Martinez and Rosa. They worked well together after recently competing against each other all thanks to Britt Baker.
This match actually had a shocking end when Thunder Rosa was able to pin the champion before their match on Sunday.
Wardlow vs. Cezar Bononi
As expected, Wardlow made quick work of his opponent. He didn’t even break a sweat before he hit three powerbombs for the quick victory. Spears wanted to take out Bononi with the chair, but Wardlow stopped him from taking his time away from him.
Adam Cole & reDRagon vs. Hangman Adam Page & Dark Order
Once this match was announced, I knew it would be a great man. Page, Silver, and Reynolds are an extremely underrated trio. But with all three members of the other trio participating in Championship matches on Sunday, you felt they would win, which they did. Cole & reDRagon were the better trio this night in a fun match to close out AEW Dynamite.
