Before the 2021-22 season, the Chicago Blackhawks reported that this would be Pat Foley’s last season as the full-time TV voice of the team. Over the course of the season, fans have seen a number of names and faces work in Foley’s place on broadcasts. Jason Ross, Chris Vosters, Mike Monaco, Stephen Nelson, and even radio voice John Wiedeman all earned opportunities filling in for Foley so far. However, according to a report, Chris Vosters has emerged as the favorite for the role going forward.
Jeff Agrest of the Chicago Sun-Times was the first on the report. As indicated in the above tweet, Jason Ross will also earn a role on radio and be Vosters’ primary fill-in. Vosters calls college sports as well and does work with Big Ten Network, ESPN, FS1, Stadium, and NBC Sports.
Author’s Opinion
As an avid fan of Vosters’ work in the Blackhawks booth, I am quite excited by this report. Of the names that filled in for Foley, I believe Vosters brings a young breath of fresh air to the broadcast. He is no Pat Foley, and we’ll all miss the legend, but Vosters is an excellent candidate to make Chicago broadcasts his own.
Vosters has called games in the Olympics, as well as a number of sports, and continues to call games all over the country. The broadcaster is based in Chicago, and made his Blackhawks debut on the night of Patrick Kane’s hat trick in a November win over the Ottawa Senators. He feels like a perfect fit for the booth going forward and, if named the number one guy, he can begin to develop his style as a hometown guy calling Blackhawks games.
The announcement is not official yet, but the Blackhawks have done their due diligence throughout this season. They wanted to find the best person possible to replace a legend, and it appears that Vosters is the guy.
