According to a report from Sky News, the Ricketts Family, owners of the Chicago Cubs, is interested in purchasing the Chelsea Football Club.
The Russian football club owner, Roman Abramovich, has expressed interest in selling the club due to the recent sanctions against Russia. The sell could be completed by May, but “will be a slow process.”
The Raine Group, who’s overseeing the sale for Abramovich, has worked with the Ricketts family in the past. As the report stated the family, “is arguably the most eye-catching names to be linked to efforts to end Mr. Abramovich’s 19-year ownership of the club.”
The club is expected to sell for a minimum of $4 billion.
Wow. In the middle of the MLBPA and owners’ negotiations, we have a report dropping about a current MLB ownership group interested in purchasing another major sports franchise. It’s no surprise that the Ricketts family has been interested in purchasing a football club in the past, but is now a good time to be talking about it again?
With all the recent talks of players wanting their fair share of profits, and owners barely budging, it’s really going to be hard to explain this one in the negotiating room. I guess owning a MLB franchise is a lot more profitable than we thought. Or is it? It’s hard to tell at this point. One thing’s for sure though, players are probably going to have something to say about this.
