The Chicago Blackhawks are shaking things up for Tuesday night’s matchup with the Anaheim Ducks. Most notably, Kirby Dach will move from third line center to a second line right wing role. Additionally, forward Henrik Borgstrom and defenseman Alec Regula will draw into the lineup. They will replace MacKenzie Entwistle and Riley Stillman at their respective positions.

Dach to Wing

Just under a month ago, interim head coach Derek King entertained the idea of moving Kirby Dach to wing. He said that potential change wouldn’t come until Jonathan Toews returned to the lineup, however. Now three games into Toews’ return from concussion protocol, Dach will flank the Blackhawks captain on the second line.

“It’s more to balance the lines. Since I moved Cat up with Kaner, we needed to…at least have 2 solid lines instead of three OK lines,” King said of the change.

Despite how the move looks to fans and media, King still has confidence in Dach as a center.

“It’s got nothing to do with Kirby struggling at center with faceoffs because I still think he’s a good centerman,” King continued.

On the season, Dach has 21 points (eight goals, 13 assists) in 54 games. Adding to his underwhelming numbers, the 21-year-old has won just 32.9 percent of his faceoffs this season. That mark is the lowest of his career, during which he averages just 34.7 percent.

Borgstrom, Regula Draw Back In

The Blackhawks have been looking for legitimate depth at all positions throughout the 2021-22 campaign. That search continues tonight when Henrik Borgstrom and Alec Regula return to the lineup.

The Blackhawks expected Borgstrom to provide supplementary scoring to their forward group. That scenario hasn’t come to fruition as he has just seven points (four goals, three assists) in 39 games. Regardless, Borgstrom will replace MacKenzie Entwistle on Chicago’s fourth line against Anaheim.

On the blue line, Alec Regula, who was recalled from the Rockford IceHogs this morning, will replace Riley Stillman. Regula was up with the NHL club for a four-game stint at the end of February. The Blackhawks assigned him to Rockford when Stillman returned from injured reserve on March 3. Regula hasn’t cracked the score sheet with the Blackhawks, but he has 17 points (two goals, 15 assists) in 27 games at the AHL level this season.
