The news of Troy Aikman’s departure from Fox Sports was a bit of a shock. He was paired with Joe Buck for what seemed like forever and now that he’s gone, someone needs to fill the void. Former Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler has been very vocal about getting an opportunity to get into broadcasting.
Jay Cutler Wants To Get Into Broadcasting and Has Already Put His Name In
Smokin’ Jay originally had a broadcasting deal in 2017 but he returned to the NFL instead. Now with Aikman’s departure, he wants another shot at broadcasting and already has his agent putting his name in the mix.
“I would love to do it. I think it’s fun and it keeps you in the game.”
– Jay Cutler on a television broadcasting role
Since retiring from the NFL, Cutler has started his own podcast and meat company: CUTS by Jay and Pat. His podcast, Uncut with Jay Cutler, has done well in it’s limited history. Cutler definitely has the ability to be entertaining on a microphone.
If Troy Aikman or Tony Romo’s success has shown us anything in the NFL broadcasting realm, it’s that former quarterbacks make great commentators. Cutler is entertaining enough to bring a fresh new perspective to Fox. The change from the Aikman/Buck tandem will be odd, at first, but Cutler could bring some serious value to a new partnership.
