MLB Cancels More Games Through April 13 and People are Sounding Off

Another two series have been canceled by MLB to start the season.

The ongoing discussions between the MLBPA and MLB owners have not ended in an agreement on a new CBA. MLB announced today they are cancelling more games through April 13.

Before this announcement, Bob Nightengale reported that the two sides were close to agreeing upon the minimum salaries. The $10,000 difference is much better than reports from earlier in the negotiations. As for the luxury tax, that’s still a bit off from being final.

MLB and the players union are now awfully close on minimum salaries proposals.
The MLBPA is now proposing $710,000 and rising to $780,000.

This negotiation is getting nowhere and effectively worse every day that they cannot come to an agreement. There was an extended deadline to get a deal done, but that came and went with no success.

Will there be any baseball in 2022? Maybe, but right now people like Craig Calcaterra of the Cup of Coffee newsletter are taking to Twitter to show their frustration.

With more canceled games, MLB’s Opening Day would be April 14 and the Chicago White Sox would begin their 2022 campaign the following day, April 15, at home against the Tampa Bay Rays. The Chicago Cubs would start their season in Colorado against the Rockies.
