The Chicago Bulls are getting closer and closer to full strength. Friday’s practice at the Advocate Center was more meaningful than normal because Alex Caruso had no limitations. Six weeks ago, Caruso suffered a broken wrist resulting from a flagrant foul by Grayson Allen of the Bucks. Caruso underwent successful surgery and is gearing up for his return.

Alex Caruso was the defensive anchor for the Bulls when he was healthy. His toughness and relentlessness on the defensive end had the Bulls in the top 10 in defensive efficiency. Though his offensive numbers aren’t flashy, Caruso is a team leader on the defensive end. Since he has been out, Chicago fell out of the top 10 and has been living at the bottom of the NBA in defensive efficiency. As the Bulls near the playoffs, Caruso’s return is paramount to help the team get back on the right track. While he did participate fully in practice today, he did say he still has some soreness.

Despite that soreness, head coach Billy Donovan did not rule Caruso out for Saturday’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Patrick Williams Injury Update

Forward Patrick Williams is also nearing a return, taking “controlled contact” with player development coaches.

Williams has been out since the fifth game of the season due to a wrist injury suffered against the New York Knicks. In his five games played this year, Williams struggled to find a rhythm on the court. But the Bulls are missing his size and he could be a key piece to a playoff run.

Williams could return at the tail end of the Bulls’ upcoming West Coast trip, assuming there aren’t any setbacks. The Chicago Bulls seem to be gearing up to be healthy for the first time since the beginning of the season. Now is the perfect time for that to happen with the NBA Playoffs around the corner.
