A very scary situation took place a little over two minutes into Saturday night’s game between the Chicago Blackhawks and Ottawa Senators. Blackhawks defenseman Connor Murphy was down on the ice and hardly moving after being boarded by Senators forward Parker Kelly. Murphy exited the game on a stretcher.
Murphy was hit from behind along the boards. He went into the boards face first and moved very little. Parker Kelly received a five-minute, game-misconduct penalty for the boarding infraction.
Murphy gave a thumbs up as he was being stretchered off the ice. The situation draws even more concern, as Murphy missed time in December with a concussion.
Per Mark Lazerus of The Athletic, Murphy will not return to tonight’s game. However, on a positive note, he is still at the arena under the attention of the Blackhawks medical staff. Our thoughts and best wishes are with Connor Murphy.
