The Chicago Cubs have signed former Atlanta Braves pitcher Chris Martin to a one-year deal, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network. The contract guarantees $2.5 million with $500,000 in performance incentives and a $250,000 roster bonus.
It seems like Jesse Chavez could’ve had something to do with this deal. Martin and Chavez played together in both Texas and Atlanta, and they will now reunite once again in Chicago. Martin provides the Cubs another experienced reliever and former World Series Champion.
The 35-year-old right-hander has been in the league for six years. He owns a 4.06 ERA, 3.36 FIP, and 1.200 WHIP across 195 career innings. Over the last two seasons, Chris Martin has pitched in 65 games with a 3.08 ERA.
